The increase in the number of Japanese people in Fukuoka City is the highest in the nation, making Kyushu the only region in its own league. The population of Fukuoka Prefecture ranks 8th nationwide, excluding Hokkaido.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' survey based on the Basic Resident Register, as of January 1, has revealed that the entire Kyushu region and Yamaguchi Prefecture continue to experience population declines. On the other hand, due to labor shortages, the number of foreigners has increased in all prefectures. As a result, each prefecture is intensifying efforts to promote coexistence with foreign residents.

Fukuoka Prefecture's population stands at 5,095,379, surpassing Hokkaido (5,093,983) and rising from 9th to 8th place nationally from last year. Although the population decreased by 9,542 from the previous year, the reduction in Hokkaido was greater.

Fukuoka Prefecture is the only one in Kyushu where the number of Japanese immigrants from other prefectures exceeds the number of emigrants, resulting in a "net inflow" of residents. The influx is particularly noticeable in Fukuoka City and its neighboring cities such as Fukutsu, Onojo, and Kasuya District.

Foreigners have increased in 90% of the 60 cities and towns within the prefecture. In Kanda Town, which has a thriving automotive industry, the number of technical interns from countries such as Vietnam and Myanmar has surged, with foreigners making up 4% (1,417 people) of the town's population. The town supports foreigners through Japanese language classes and other initiatives.

In Saga Prefecture, the number of Japanese decreased by 7,642, but the number of foreigners increased by 1,816, representing a 23.33% increase, making it the 3rd highest in the country after Kumamoto and Hokkaido.

The trend of accepting foreigners in manufacturing and agriculture has been influenced by the post-COVID era. In Miyaki Town, Saga Prefecture, foreigners are taught waste disposal rules, and disaster prevention seminars are held with the participation of Japan Meteorological Agency staff.

Meanwhile, Fukuoka City leads the nation with an increase of 8,829 Japanese residents, making it the top performer in Kyushu. According to the city, urban redevelopment and corporate attraction efforts have been successful, with 62 companies expanding into the city last year. The employment created in the last decade has exceeded 18,000 jobs.
